Scriptural Therapy

A world hastening to fulfill a vision of what seem right in its own eyes is a world that reflects the falleness that separates man from his creator. As part and parcel of the impact of that loss, we struggle with our identity, security and our individuality.
We grow increasingly less sensitive as we lose our ability to care. The antidote for this fallen world infection in man has always been the Word of God. God has chosen to present himself to us through Christ. Christianity is Faith Based meaning Trust Based or Belief Based.
When we believe God, we live his word. Here’s an opportunity to live God’s word through the learning and recital of scripture.

Blessings for Obedience

If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations on earth. All these blessings will come upon you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God:

“You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country.”

“The fruit of your womb will be blessed and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock – the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks.”

“Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed.”

“You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.”

“The LORD will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven.”

“The LORD will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The LORD your God will bless you in the land he is giving you.”’

“The LORD will establish you as his holy people, as he promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the LORD your God and walk in his ways.”

“Then all the people on earth will see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they will fear you. The LORD will grant you abundant prosperity – in the fruit of your womb the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground – in the land he swore to your forefathers to give you.”

“The LORD will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend to many nations but will borrow from none. The LORD will make you the head not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the LORD your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them you will always be at the top, never at the bottom. Do not turn aside from any of the commands I give you today, to the right or to the left, following other gods and serving them.”

Deuteronomy 28:1-14

A prayer of repentance

“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your lovingkindness; according to the multitude of your tender mercies, blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions and my sin is always before me.”

“Against you, you only, have I sinned and done this evil in your sight, that you may be found just when you speak and blameless when you judge. Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me. Behold you desire truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden parts you will make me to know wisdom.”

“Purge me with hyssop and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me hear joy and gladness, the bone you have broken may rejoice. Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.”

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me by your generous Spirit. Then I will teach transgressors your ways and sinners shall be converted to you.”

“Deliver me from the guilt of bloodshed, O God, the God of my salvation, and my tongue shall sing aloud of your righteousness. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth shall show forth your praise. For you do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; you do not delight in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart – these, O God, you will not despise.”

Psalms 51:1-17

Guidance for the Young

“My son, do not forget my law, but let your heart keep my commands; for length of days and long life and peace they will add to you. Let not mercy and truth forsake you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart, and so find favor and high esteem in the sight of God and man.”

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your wars acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, and strength to your bones.”

“Honor the LORD with your possessions and with the firstfruits of all your increase; so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine.”

Proverbs 3:1-10

Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do so.

Proverbs 3:27

Security in Wisdom

My Son, give attention to my words; incline your ear to my saying. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh. Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. Put away from you a deceitful mouth, and put perverse lips far from you.

Proverbs 4:20-24

The LORD the Shepherd of His People

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; he leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Psalm 23:1-6

Giving Honor

Honor your father and your mother that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you.

Exodus 20:12

God is not a man that he should lie, nor a son of man that he should repent. Has he said, and will he not do? Or has he spoken, and will he not make it good? Behold, I have received a command to bless; he has blessed. And I cannot reverse it.

Numbers 23:19

The Potter and the Clay

‘ word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying: “Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear my words.” Then I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was, making something at the wheel. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel as it seemed good to the potter to make.’

‘Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying: “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter?” says the LORD. “Look, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel!’

‘The instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, to pull down, and to destroy it, if that nation against whom I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I thought to bring upon it. And the instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it, if it does evil in my sight so that is does not obey my voice, then I will relent concerning the good with which I said I would benefit it.’
